So, the other day I decide to leave my '90 Z in the garage (I only drive it in perfect weather....$4,800 jet black paint job) and drive my 2000 nissan pathfinder. I'm driving along Route 15 in Virginia on foggy, rainy late night. For those of you who don't know route 15, it is a very dark, hilly and windy road out in the middle of know where. Traffic was light and I was following a car going about 55 mph, at times going less. Speed limit is 55. Now, I see a pair of headlights coming up on me from behind REALLY fast. It was an SUV and it came up right behind me and started flashing its brights at me, then it passed me and the car in front of me on double yellow (no passing zone). About a half mile later, I see another pair of headlights coming up behind me, not as fast as the SUV that passed me. It turned out to be a cop and he flashed his blues at me, so I pulled over. At this point, I'm like WTF? So the cop comes up to me and asks "where were you coming from" and I say "from Gilberts Corner" (a road about 6 miles behind us). Then he says "You know the speed limit?" and I say "55 officer" He replies "you were going 77, I caught you on radar" And I said "let me see your radar" and he said "I'm not showing it to you" then he went to his car with my lic. and paperwork and came back to me with a "reckless driving by speeding" ticket!! Now I'm pretty angry. He gives me the ticket and he says "slow down, it's to foggy and there are alot of deer" I say "yeah, whatever man, you caught the wrong person. Then he yells "don't be a "F" smart a**. Then I say, "you don't have to swear" and he says "I don't give a sh*t!" I take my BS ticket and take off. I get to my house and just go to sleep. The next morning, I'm looking at the ticket and the stupid cop checked a box on the ticket that said "you don't have to come to court and that I could pay it over the phone" I later found out that in VA, reckless driving is a criminal offense and not a pre-paid fine and you must come to court! Also, the cop noted to street names on the ticket, one where he said he radared me and the other was where he actually pulled me over. The distance between these two points is nearly 2 miles. Remember, the road is hilly and windy, plus it was rainy and foggy, so it was impossible for him to see the vehicle he was chasing with an unobstructed view for more than a half a quarter mile, because there would be a hill or wide turn blocking the view. My Pathfinder is dark grey in color as well. I think what happened is that the cop got confused and pulled me over when he should have pulled the other SUV that passed me and the car in front of me. I have never gotten a ticket, other than loud exhaust on my Z, no front lic. plates...just the usual BS. I have only been living in VA for couple years.
Could anyone give me some feedback on how I could get out of this ticket...It was honestly not me that was speeding!!!!
